The Western Highlands Conservation Network Drafts its Three Year Strategic Plan

As president of the Western Highlands Conservation Network (WHINCONET), SIRDEP lead a two day strategic planning workshop in mid-June.  The process focused on gaining input from members concerning strategic directions for the next three years and building a framework for subsequent annual plans.

Network members addressed issues such as: defining the WHINCONET ‘product’; improving internal communications and external marketability; identifying strategic opportunities and leveraging existing strengths; and learning from the past to improve operational planning and monitoring and evaluation processes.

Our team is currently coordinating the final adoption of WHINCONET’s 2012-2014 Strategic Plan and will be releasing the final version once approved by members.

SIRDEP is excited about the direction which WHINCONET is taking and looks forward to continued leadership in the area of nature conservation for Cameroon’s Western Highlands.

WHINCONET is a network of 14 environmental conservation organizations located in the North West, South West, and West Regions of Cameroon.  Founded in 2002, WHINCONET is committed to promoting sustainable practices in bio-diversity conservation and natural resources management.  The Network is overseen by a Coordinating Committee which manages the Finance, Projects, Information, and Conflict Management Sub Committees.

Cameroon’s Western Highlands are internationally recognized as a bio-hotspot because they contain such a diverse plant and wildlife species.

A sample of projects facilitated and executed by WHINCONET include:
