A Communications Challenge: SIRDEP Partners with NWADO and VSO Cameroon to Promote Improved Communications amongst CSOs

We are happy to announce that SIRDEP is part of an innovative project to build online and social media communications capabilities of North West Association of Development Organizations (NWADO) members.  Through an Action Learning grant by Voluntary Services Overseas Cameroon (VSO), NWADO members will participate in a challenge which rewards points to CSOs /NGOs for executing predefined communications activities.  Points will be aggregated and networking opportunities as well as prizes awarded, based on performance.

Examples of scoring opportunities include creating a blog site, sending an introductory email to a potential funder, or holding a beneficiary input workshop.  Participants have to claim their points using a simple, predefined claims form.  All submissions will be done via email to promote more disciplined and timely digital correspondence.

The goal of the project is not only to stimulate communication activities, but to consciously self-analyze how CSOs/NGOs have implemented their communications strategy (developed by each participant in the initial workshop).  This will be done through the Action Learning process, which consists of 4 primary steps: Action, Reflection, Learning, Planning.  The project will last about 3-4 months.  More can be found on Action Learning here.

NWADO staff will be responsible for daily administrative responsibilities.  Unfortunately, SIRDEP will not be able to participate in the Challenge due to a conflict of interest (even though it is a NWADO member); instead, we have been soliciting various national and international organizations and individuals to participate in an advisory/networking capacity.  Top performers in the Challenge will be eligible for periodic networking/training opportunities with national and international partners, funders, and professionals.

Are you interested in following the progress of Challenge participants?  Weekly updates will be posted to the NWADO site http://nwado.wordpress.com.  SIRDEP will also continue to provide periodic updates on this site.
