SIRDEP promoting Agro Forestry

A reliable and sure way to ensure food security is at the level of improving soil fertility that will lead to improved yields. In Cameroon, the government encourages the use of chemical fertilizer to improve soil fertility. However, the price of chemical fertilizer is very high for most of our farmers, a majority of whom are subsistence farmers. Agro forestry can be a sure way out, given that a single tree can produce manure that will have the same effect.  In this light, SIRDEP has been working with over 50 farmers from 4 groups in Batibo sub division. For the past 4 years, the yields of these ‘agro forestry farmers’ have improved with the use of this technique. Many more farmers are requesting for our services to help them to engage in this method of farming.

Read our next post on some these techniques.
