Youth AEP, Promoting Youth Entrepreneurship

Introduction: Youth Aggro-pastoral Entrepreneurship Promotion Program (Youth AEP – PEA Jeunes in French) is a project of the Cameroon government, supervised by MINADER and MINEPIA.

 Objectives: The Youth Aggro-pastoral Entrepreneurship Program is all about contributing in the development of performance agricultural activities, rural poverty reduction increase food security. The program empowers youth to develop viable and sustainable production, transformation and commercialization chains.

Specific Objective

  • Provide adequate financial and non financial support in the creation and management of performance aggro-pastoral enterprises by youth.
  • Promotion and development of a political, organizational and institutional favorable pathway to the creation and the development of youth agro pastoral enterprise in Cameroon.

Production basins targeted in the North West Region: Bamenda/Santa, Menchum Valley, Batibo/Mbengwi

Speculations targeted (Livestock)

  • Poultry – Table birds, layers, local fowls
  • Pig production – breeding, fattening
  • Non-conventional livestock – rabbits, cane rats, rat moles, snails

Speculations targeted (Crop production)

  • Maize – seeds and grains
  • Market gardening

Other areas supported

  • Transport services
  • Service provision (building, carpentry, agric technicians, veterinary services)
  • Sales services (animal feed, phyto-sanitary products, animal and other farm tools)
  • Specialized restaurants

Age group targeted: 18 to 35 years with target to establish 5040

Project end date: 2021

Registration: Free of charge at SIRDEP office in Bamenda and in the basins. Only a photocopy of your national identity card is required.

Steps to benefit

  • Sensitization
  • Identification/Registration
  • Training on project idea development
  • Diagnosis at proposed site of project
  • Selection by Youth AEP office at Regional level
  • Training (during which a detail business plan is developed)
  • Sponsorship

Funding can be for:

  • Enterprise creation (can benefit up to 3,000,000CFA F)
  • Enterprise expansion (can benefit from 3,000,000 to 10,000,000CFA F)

10% of the project cost is provided by the project owner (youth in question)

40% is provided by the program

50% is given to the beneficiary as a loan

The Society for Initiatives in Rural Development and Environmental Protection (SIRDEP) is non-governmental, not-for-profit making organization in Cameroon head quartered in Bamenda. SIRDEP has a multi-disciplinary team of experienced agronomists, agro-economists, livestock technicians, rural engineers, and natural resource management experts who work together to foster positive, sustainable development. SIRDEP was founded in 1992 and is one of the oldest indigenous NGOs in the North West Region of Cameroon.
